Therapy is a general term and can be used for any type of treatment that is beneficial for healing and general well-being. It could be applied to various physical health treatments and also to psychological treatments. Counselling and psychotherapy refer to types of talk therapy that are used for treating psychological problems. Although the processes of counselling and psychotherapy overlap, counselling is usually more short term for problems that do not impact on most areas of your life, or for learning techniques for general well being. By having the support and space to talk through your problems you gain new insight. Emotions become less distressing and you make decisions to move your life forward in positive ways. Psychotherapy usually lasts for more sessions and is used where the problems are more severe and experienced in a number of areas of a person’s life such as mental health issues, drug and alcohol addictions, gambling, family conflict, intimate partner abuse and past trauma such as childhood neglect or abuse.
An individual session lasts 50mins and costs $120 . There is no rebate available through Medicare for registered counsellors or psychotherapists. The payment for the session must be made on the day of the appointment. Cash and cards are accepted.
Couples sessions are $150.
You should notify us of your cancellation 24hrs ahead of your session otherwise a cancellation fee of half the cost of the session will be charged. If there are exceptional circumstances, the charge will be waved.
This really depends on how you feel. You can continue for as many sessions as you like. Usually the therapist and the client decide together when it’s
appropriate for the therapy to end. Sometimes the therapist may suggest a referral to another mental health practitioner for more specialist treatment.
Weekend sessions are not currently available. Evening sessions are available in Rhodes, Thurs 5pm and 6pm.
